Just a Nine Iron from Dunwoodie Golf Course, Sprain Lake and More!

Yonkers golf courses are an undiscovered goldmine. The area is home to a surprising number of fabulous golf courses. Whether you’re a scratch handicapper or weekend duffer, you’ll have your choice of great layouts just a chip shot from the Hampton Inn & Suites Yonkers hotel.

Dunwoodie Golf Course

1 Wasylenko Ln
Yonkers, NY 10701-6417
(914) 231-3490

Dunwoodie lies at the top of "Dunwoodie Heights" in the center of the city of Yonkers. It is characterized by dramatic topography and steep slopes. Its layout is a mix of narrow fairways to rolling wide landscapes. The design of the course takes advantage of the natural topography, resulting in a challenging game. The course's first and 15th tees have recently been expanded.

Sprain Lake Golf Course

290 Grassy Sprain Rd
Yonkers, NY 10710
(914) 779-9827

Sprain Lake is characterized by small greens, rolling terrain and a number of highly challenging holes, with an abundance of water hazards and difficult shots. Because of its long and narrow layout, Sprain Lake offers a mostly linear, back-and-forth style of play. The 18-hole course at the Sprain Lake Golf Course facility features 6,110 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 70. The course rating is 69.3 and it has a slope rating of 122. Designed by Tom Winton.

Mosholu Golf Course

3545 Jerome Ave
Bronx, NY 10467
(718) 655-9164

Mosholu Golf Course, founded over a century ago as one of the first public golf courses in the United States, has enjoyed a renaissance in recent years with the complete reconstruction of its nine-hole layout in 2007. Among the best conditioned municipal courses in the area, its rolling fairways and contoured greens provide the perfect golf experience for both beginners and experts alike.

Van Cortlandt Park Course

Van Cortlandt Park S & Bailey
Bronx, NY 10471
(718) 543-4595

Van Cortlandt Golf Course is located in the North Bronx close to the Yonkers border. It is the oldest public golf course in the USA. Known as "Vanny" by the locals, it is the most easily accessible NYC course to mass transportation. The #1 train leaves you just a short walk to the course. Over the years many famous people have played at Van Cortlandt. They include Babe Ruth, Willie Mays, Joe Lewis and the Three Stooges. Under new management, Van Cortlandt features seven new greens, new tee boxes, additional cart paths, improved bunkers, and dramatically improved drainage.

Lake Isle Town Park Course

660 White Plains Rd
Eastchester, NY 10709-5511
(914) 961-3453

Lake Isle Country Club in Eastchester, New York features 6,009 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 70. The course rating is 69.0 and it has a slope rating of 120. Designed by Devereaux Emmet, Lake Isle Country Club opened in 1926.

Pelham/Split Rock Golf Course

870 Shore Rd
Bronx, NY 10464-1024
(800) 345-4259

Pelham - Split Rock GC is New York City's only 36-hole facility. Both courses are located in Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx, lying east of Co-Op City and just south of Westchester County. The Pelham Course was built in 1901 and has a links-style layout. With its expansive fairways and forgiving layout, Pelham is the perfect location for the beginner and experienced golfer alike. Pelham's sister course, Split Rock, is a championship caliber John Van Kleek classic design. A shot-maker’s course, it is a challenge that forces you to use every club in your bag.

Rockleigh Golf Course

15 Paris Ave
Rockleigh, NJ 07647-2697
(201) 768-6354

This public course opened in 1957 with what are now the Red and White nines, designed by Alfred H. Tull. In 1964, Robert Trent Jones, Sr.'s Blue nine debuted. Just after 2000, architect Robert McNeil oversaw a redesign of the facility, including new tee-boxes, 21 new bunkers, and several rebuilt greens.

Emerson Golf Club

99 Palisade Ave
Emerson, NJ 07630-1844
(201) 261-1100

Built in 1963, Emerson Golf Club offers two different, yet equally challenging, 18- and nine-hole layouts. The opening nine winds through relatively open terrain with strategic water hazards. Although these generous landing areas tempt the golfer to “grip it and rip it" off the tee, positioning for the ideal approach shot is equally important. The back nine is characterized by mature tree-lined fairways that demand accuracy from tee to green. Each of the bent grass greens is well groomed, mildly undulating, and well-protected by sculpted bunkers. Lauded for its course conditions, Emerson's layout rewards golfers who can combine a mastery of power and finesse.
